LAMB as a whole costs about £1,200,000 a year to run.  Some of this has been funded by international donors, but the level of major grants varies and provides no security for the longer term.  LAMB charges for its services where possible and obtains income locally from training Government and NGO health workers, technical assistance and consultancy work.  However LAMB’s commitment to serve the poor regardless of ability to pay means that it will never recover all its costs.

LHCF’s current target is to maintain a level of voluntary donations from the UK of £50,000 a year (excluding special donations received for capital projects). The Foundation relies on donations from individuals in the UK and some churches and grant-giving trusts.  Its small running costs are all met by the Trustees themselves.

In the spring of 2006 LHCF was successful in securing funding from the Department for International Development’s Civil Society Challenge Fund.  The funding covers the period April 2006 to June 2009 and provides for an expansion of the LAMB Project’s activities.  Its aim is the further reduction of infant and maternal mortality and in particular it involves:-

• developing LAMB’s model of integrated health care, so that there is a greater emphasis on enabling local people, especially women, to exercise their rights.
• extending the coverage of LAMB’s services into three new local areas.
• spreading the LAMB model of health care and development more generally in Bangladesh and potentially elsewhere through dialogue with the Bangladesh government and other NGOs.
   

LHCF is contributing to the project by assisting in the dissemination of the model and seeking to increase linkages between LAMB and relevant research institutions in the UK and elsewhere.

Grants to LAMB came to £116,000, of which:

• £80,000 was for the Poor Fund;
• £25,000 towards new accommodation;
• £7,000 for work with people with disabilities;
• £4,000 for community health work and training.

2010
Grants to LAMB were £124,000, of which:

• £95,000 was for the Poor Fund in 2010

• £25,000 was for community work.

2009

Grants to LAMB, excluding DfID funding, came to £187,500. The main items were:

• £77,200 was for the Poor Fund in 2009;
• £32,300 towards the Poor Fund in 2010;
• £31,300 for hospital running costs;
• £25,000 was for community work in areas previously funded by DfID;
• £11,500 for the disability programme.

DfID funding from 2006 to 2009 totalled £349,000.

2008

Grants to LAMB, excluding the DfID funding, came to £77,500, of which:-

• £44,000 was for the Poor Fund.
• £26,800 for hospital running costs.
• £5,700 for hospital medical equipment.

2007
Grants to LAMB, excluding the DFID funding, came to £136,000. The main items were:-

• £51,000 for the Poor Fund.
• £46,000 for hospital running costs.
• £20,000 for the construction of a science laboratory fro LAMB school.
• £5,000 for other building costs and equipment, including the repair of the hospital generator.
• Over £13,000 for training and further education for LAMB staff.
